Brock Lesnar ufc Champion

According to UFC president Dana White, Lesnar underwent the surgery that will hopefully help the ailing heavyweight after he was stricken with a second bout of diverticulitis that forced him out of his scheduled bout with Junior Dos Santos at UFC 131.

“Brock Lesnar actually had surgery yesterday,” White revealed. “They removed about 12 inches of his colon, repaired it, he feels great. He said he’s a little sore, but the operation was a huge success.”

Lesnar was up in the air as recently as two weeks ago about whether he would have surgery or opt to allow antibiotics to try and treat the disease. Obviously the news on Saturday confirms that Lesnar went for the surgery.

As far as a timeline for his return, White was hopeful that Lesnar would be back during the first part of 2012.

“We’re hoping he can be back by the first of the year,” White stated.

Lesnar hasn’t competed since October 2010 when he lost the UFC heavyweight title to current champion Cain Velasquez.

It was during his coaching stint on the 13th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” that Lesnar started dealing with symptoms from a second bout of diverticulitis. Once he realized he was dealing with a full blown case of the ailment again, Lesnar was forced out of his fight with Dos Santos and back on the sidelines.

Brock Lesnar can be listed among the former WWE Champions but we must also add that this wrestler made the move to a different world of competition – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and mixed martial arts (MMA). Lesnar caught fan’s attention with his win in a 2007 UFC debut. However, this was not the first time the 32-year-old fighter has been in the spotlight.

Lesnar was a NCAA Division I wrestling champion and won the WWE title multiple times. After a very successful career in WWE competition, Lesnar started training for MMA in 2006. He quickly moved to the top of this game with a UFC Heavyweight Championship (defeating Randy Coutoure). He considers it an honor to be able to compete in UFC battles. He has stated that this organization includes “the best fighters in the world.”

Lesnar worked hard as a youth, because he grew up on a dairy farm. He attended college and wrestled successfully at the collegiate level but did not complete his degree. Once his college wrestling career was over he moved to professional bouts with the WWE. Lesnar also tried his hand at the National Football League but returned to wrestling. (He is 6′3″ tall and weighs more than 260 pounds.)

His collegiate accomplishments include four All-American honors, two Big Ten championships and the NCAA heavyweight title. Lesnar took his third WWE title in 2003 with a win over Kurt Angle (SmackDown!). Lesnar won the hour-long Iron Man Match with a 5-4 score. His most recent activity with the UFC will include a May 30 match against Heath Herring (pay per view).

Lesnar, who was born in 1977, is ranked second in the world by MMA Weekly.com, according to biography information from UFC and others. At the time he won a WWE title he was the youngest person ever to hold that honor. He lists 2002 King of the Ring and 2003 Royal Rumble champion among his accomplishments.

"I don't worry about a guy like Brock Lesnar…I'm cautious…but know what you can do…know what you are capable of." - Cain Velasquez

"You are going to see Brock Lesnar get exposed for the first time. Here is somebody (Cain Velasquez) who is going to be a better wrestler...better striker...better ground guy…in better shape. And Brock is not going to have enough to deal with him." – Bob Cook (Cain’s Strategy coach at AKA)

“UFC Primetime,” produced by the Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®), is a look into the lives of heavyweight king Lesnar, and the challenger, Velasquez. As the two prepare for their meeting in October, Spike TV will present three special weekly installments that will take viewers from rural Minnesota as Lesnar trains with the DeathClutch/Minnesota Martial Arts Academy to San Jose, CA, as Velasquez trains with the renowned American Kickboxing Academy team. “UFC Primetime” delivers an extraordinary amount of access to two of mixed martial arts’ best, as they head into what could be the signature fight of the year.

Just two months ago, former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (5-2) lost his belt to Cain Velasquez (9-0) at UFC 121. The first round TKO left the former WWE superstar battered, bloody and lying on the canvas.

In the two months since his defeat, Lesnar has been very low profile, almost to the point of hiding. Some of this is due to the three medical suspensions he was handed following the TKO that amounted to lofty 180 days pending clearance by an ophthalmologist. The very least Lesnar will be suspended though is 60 days for his left cheek laceration with no contact allowed. What this all Means is he is not really hiding but more or less healing and recovering.
